Fine Arts Festival

tada!! almost time to VIEW and VOTE!

On Saturday, March 15, you can begin viewing the ART work included in the "People's Choice" Exhibit in Historic Downtown Farmington. From the 15th through the Spring Art Walk on Friday, April 4, 70 Four Corners artists will be showing a piece of their work in 15 downtown venues. Register to VOTE (for your favorite piece of ART) at Three Rivers Art Center, 109 N. Allen, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. Also, pick up a catalog re: artist/venue info at TRAC, or other participating businesses. Art can be viewed during each venue's regular business hours.

Seven CASH prizes will be presented to the artists with the most votes at an AWARDS Ceremony at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, in the Farmington Civic Center lobby. All are invited to attend. A Juried Award has been added to the event this year. Durango artist, Maureen May - painter, printmaker, actress and community activist will view all ART work on site and make a selection for the Juried Award.

"People's Choice" is sponsored by the Farmington Downtown Association and the Three Rivers Art Center, the Connie Gotsch Arts Foundation, the Fine Arts Committee at San Juan College, the Northwest New Mexico Arts Council, and George Duncan - 1st prize winner People's Choice - 2013.

WHO CAN VOTE?
If you are 16 years of age or older, you are eligible to vote for your favorite piece of art.

WHY VOTE?
Exhibiting artists can win cash awards of up to $1,000 based on the number of votes they get.
Your vote counts!

HOW MANY VOTES DO I GET ?
There are two categories _ Adult and Student. You can vote for one piece in each category, one time only.

HOW DO I GET A BALLOT SO I CAN VOTE?
Beginning Saturday, March 15th. you can register to vote in person and get a ballot at Three Rivers Art Center (TRAC) at 109 N Alien Ave. Faimington. NM, Tuesday - Saturday 10am to 5pm

WHERE IS THE ART I GET TO VOTE ON?
Pick up a People's Choice catalog, available at Three Rivers Art Center (TRAC) 109 N Allen Ave and at participating downtown Farmington Businesses This catalog will identify all the participating businesses and the art pieces.
There are 15 participating downtown Farmington businesses with 57 Adult artists and 15 Student artists represented. The student category includes just the art of students from San Juan College.

HOW DO I VOTE?
Each art piece will have a placard identifying the division (Adult or Student) and a unique catalog number. All student art will be displayed in the Farmington Civic Center foyer.
Write on vour ballot the catalog number that corresponds to the piece that you wish to vote for in both
the Adult and Student divisions.

BE SURE AND SIGN YOUR BALLOT!

business hours or during the April Art Walk on Friday, April 4t h

A National Juried Art Competition
ENTER NOW!

Get your work prepared for entry into the 2014 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition. The show will take place at the Farmington Museum from May 10 - July 12, 2014, with a reception on May 17, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. All media accepted, open to artists 18 years and older, artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2013. The show will award $2,750 in cash prizes. There is a $35 entry fee for a maximum of 2 digital files, the entry deadline is March 15, 2014, see the prospectus here.

Artifacts Gallery (302 E Main) will host "Unhooked - The Decorated Bra Show" which includes the work of several area artists. Proceeds from sales go to the Cathy Lincoln Memorial Fund. Also, curator for the Harrison Center for the Arts in Indianapolis, Kyle Ragsdale, will show his ART in this venue. sounds like a win...win...

The Farmington Daily Times (201 Allen Ave) will have a display of ART completed by high school students. good refreshments too!

Studio 116 (116 W. Main) will feature paintings and mixed media work by Doug Miller - voted "People's Choice" at Riverfest Fine Arts and Crafts Fair 2013.

Three Rivers Banquet Hall (107 W. Main) will host "A Healing ARTmosphere"...a silent auction of ART and crafts held to benefit San Juan County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Tax Force.

Three Rivers Art Center (109 N. Allen) will hold a reception for "L o o s e Ladies". yep. An exhibit of ART work by the Current LL's will be on display...must see.

and then...there are a few changes to the art walk since attached map has been printed...1st - Ambrose Teasyatwho will be showing his sculpture and drawings at Sherrie's Studio (101 W. Main)...not Wal-Art. 2nd - Sarah Mahaffey (mixed media and oils), Randy Follis (western art), and Kyle Lewis (pencil, markers) will be showing at Wal-Art (422 W. Casting Call for the independent film “The Reach”Casting Call The Reach

Farmington, NM– “The Reach,” an independent film shooting in the Farmington/Shiprock area is holding a casting call for background actors this Friday, September 6 from 1:00 to 5:00pm at the Red Lion Hotel, 700 Scott Ave, in Farmington, NM. The call will be in the Four Corners Grand Ballroom.

Production on “The Reach” will begin mid-September and run through late October.

The production is looking for men, women and children of all ages to work as paid extras. We are especially interested in 50yo + people with interesting faces.

New Mexico Extras Casting Director Lorrie Latham will conduct the casting call. If you are unable to attend the casting call in person please submit a recent color picture of yourself to lorrie@lathamcasting.com. Along with the photo please include the following information:

Take the Leap!...

ART LEAP, that is. Venues are fewer and farther between for this February event, but the excellent quality of ART WORK abides.

Three downtown businesses are keeping the doors open from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, February 15 to celebrate ART!

  1. Three Rivers Women's Collective & In Cahoots! Gallery (109 N. Allen) will host an opening reception for the "Masks" Exhibit. This show will include a variety of masks created by area artists. The public is invited to vote for their favorite mask in three different categories: Most Original, Most Whimsical, and Overall Best of Show. Voting will begin on the 12th of Feb. and go through the 23rd. Local musician Charles Stacey will share his talent during the reception.
  2. B & B Bridal & Tuxedo Junction (228 W. Main) will feature the work of two local potters. Evelyn Smith will show her miniature creations and Nancy Tso will show her functional pieces. Stop in and support these artists new to the downtown event.
  3. Wal-Art (422 W. Main) will highlight the work of local encaustic artist Michael Billie. and, yeah!...the Wines of the San Juan will be on location with tasting and sales. Munchies available in all locations.

Fran Mayfield2012 Gateway to Imagination Juried Art Exhibition
Northwest New Mexico Arts Council Winners

98 artworks selected from 334 submissions from artists across the country. The Northwest New Mexico Arts Council was among one of the several awards presented at the 2012 Gateway to Imagination National Juried Art Competition held at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park in Farmington, New Mexico. About 98 artworks were selected by the Juror, Hugh Wilson, from 334 submissions from artists across the country. Congratulations to local artists, Fran Mayfield and Mickey Ginn for being selected as 2012 NWNMAC winners and each received a ribbon and a $200 cash award.Mickey Ginn

About the Juror: Hugh Wilson, a figurative painter, who works from life is the juror for this year’s art exhibit. He lives and paints in communities for several months at a time, developing intimate relationships with his subjects. He lived with Tuaregs in Algeria, migrant workers in Niger, traveled in a camper through working–class America and followed the Hispanic farm workers from Yuma to Salinas. Hugh spent the fall of 2011 in the remote islands of Vanuatu.

Mr. Wilson graduated in 1991 with a BA from Duke University and received his MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2004. His work has been shown in Algeria, France, New York and Montana.


2012 Gateway to Imagination Juried Art Exhibition

Textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin has been juried into the 2012 Gateway to Imagination National Juried Art Competition to be held at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park in Farmington, New Mexico. Her artwork, Diamond #3: Block on a Rock, is one of the artworks selected for the exhibit. The exhibition will feature 98 artworks selected from 334 submissions.

The juror for this exhibition is figurative painter Hugh Wilson. Mr. Wilson lives and paints in communities worldwide for several months at a time, developing intimate relationships with his subjects. More about him and his artwork can be seen on his web site: http://www.hugh-wilson.com .

The exhibition opens on May 12, 2012. An artist reception, juror talk, and awards presentation is on May 19, 2012 from 6 to 9 pm. The exhibition closes on July 14, 2012.
